Discovery of a novel factor that promotes mitochondrial fission

With support from JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency), JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), the Takeda Science Foundation, and other organizations, Nobuo N. Noda, a Specially Appointed Researcher in the Laboratory of Structural Biology at our institute (and Professor at Hokkaido University), and Tatsuro Maruyama, a Researcher in the same laboratory, in collaboration with research groups at Kyushu University, Hokkaido University, Yokohama City University, and Niigata University, have discovered a novel factor that promotes mitochondrial fission. The findings were published online in the international scientific journal EMBO Reports on January 13, 2026.
